Could it be that one man, his signature pedal and favourite telecaster have had such an impact on us all that gear coloured purple will never be thought of the same way again? 
 
Well possibly; having sold almost a thousand metres or two to three incarnations of the colour purple I believe a certain Danish gentlemen due a degree of thanks! So thank you Pete should you ever read this! 
 
Of course the main guitarist associated with the colour purple is Jimmy Hendrix and I'm not really sure what to say about that. Normally I'd a go or some long winding story to tell you before you read the specs below and oh! I've just realised: I do! Here we go!
 
Back in high school I won the Dux for Advanced Higher Music (thats Scottish for the top pupil in a class or school) Apparently I got the highest marks ever for both instrument performances and composition. This was back when your first instrument was still grade 8 and your second grade 5. 
 
I was invited to perform at the presentation of said awards and decided instead of playing my first instrument Bass or my second instrument, the Bagpipes. That I would play guitar and I would play Purple Haze. 
 
Now I really really wanted to play it cause I never thought I'd have been able to! I was exited, could'nt wait to see the auidence reaction, maybe even grab some girls attention, you know what high schools like.
 
To my dismay the deputy head (a p**** of a man) stepped in and asked me to play some really boring Santana number. I can’t even remember the tracks name (it might have been in an M&S advert) but from a guitar point of few ability wise to play the part. Well I may as well have been up on stage playing the triangle. 
 
He didn’t get that though and for some reason a CDT teacher and my mother who worked in the school got behind this guy and told me I was doing it. They even bought a backing track…
 
So there I was on my way to frankly making everyone in the audience wonder why the school had given me the Dux. Fate however had different plans  and I couldn’t have been happier with what happened next. 
 
A week or a few days before I was at a house party full of young drunk Scots. I was stone cold sober though and standing in a doorway chatting away to a few I never really knew. I was having a great time until someone tried to close the door. 
 
I was leaning and had my arm raised with my hand and fingers on the door frame right beside the door hinge. I yelled and maybe even yelped as my thumb got crushed but being stone cold sober in the moment I realised ya beauty! I won't have to perform now!! I WIN!!! 
 
The deputy head was raging. God knows why it was so important to him but he really was. Perhaps he was just used to getting what he wants, I got the impression he even thought I had done this deliberately. Whatever, I got out of it. 
 
Years later when he retired he got his name all over the papers. No not for years of fine service educating the youth, nor for having great taste in music: but instead for choosing to sex text a 17 year old girl from the same school. 
 
and that folks is why I was right to want to play Hendrix and he was wrong to try and stop me. The absolute paedo. Anyway, end of story. Specs below!
