Where to begin? Well its one of the first three braids I tried when making the decision to start trying to get more people to take notice of my cables.
The longest and most famous custodian to own a Slime Green cable is named Duncan Findlay but we'll get to him later. How about first we talk about why braided cables even exist at Practical Patch.
So when I started this business I imagined myself sitting in my original workshop knocking out identical patch cables one after the other, selling them on Reverb or maybe even sending off to an Amazon warehouse to have them take care of the rest. I'd been told to avoid eBay at all costs and eventually found out why at a later date!
At this time I was still into setting up and modding guitars so at this point I got in touch with a guy called Perry Ormsby on Facebook. Years earlier he had helped me out over the social media platfrom with a query I had regarding setting up a floating trem on a strat and without my knowing who he was this stream of advice rolled on it. Legend.
So naturally being the way I am I had photos of my new cable work so decided to send some to Perry to say this is what I'm getting up to now mate thanks for all your help.... He replied with words to the effect of "they look great, try to find a way to get colour on there and people will love them" and thus the seed was planted.
I had literally to this point never conisdered braiding a cable before, didn't know what Techflex or PET braid even was and certainly didnt understand where or how to buy or apply the stuff in the best way for ta cable. Thusly, the learning began.
So fast forward to the first few bits of braid arriving and a small pile of Neutrik connectors. I put together one Slime Green, an Orange and a Purple one. As well as two black bare cables with Neutrik ends on them.
On this occasion I decided to take these creations to FB marketplace and a few facebook groups rather than Reverb or my frankly redundant website. I had if I'm being honest thought that getting rid of them as quickly as possible was the best option. I wasn't cash rich at the time and getting my money back seemed more important than learning how these cables would be received.
So what happened next? Four or the five cables sold within an hour and this is the moment I met by chance Duncan Findlay; he bought the first Slime Green Cable saying "this is exactly what I've been looking for." It wasnt until about a week later that I realised Perry was absolutely right. If I was going to sell cables and sell cables without colour I was going to have to catch peoples eye and get my work out there!
Duncan was over the moon with his new Slime Green cable. He's been a session player for over 50 years and often finds himself in orchestra pits where chairs and people can trod upon his cabling, problems a bright Green UV cable can assist with.... So he got back in touch and to my suprise ordered another three cables and I guess as they say the rest is history. He along gave me to confidence to persevere and spend on braided cables as well as Neutirk connectors.
I've gone on enough now but know this, Slime Green is the OG and probably the cable I've sold the most of. It's been away for a while and had a braid change briefly but now its back in its original form and ready to perform brightly in looks and boosting your instruments tone brilliantly. This braid will be seen on stage in all lights and the Van Damme cable used at 90pf/M will give you a decent amount of clarity to your instruments signal!
Specs below, this cable really does deliver on the anti theft front. If you lend this to someone they're going to have a hard time hiding it! Remember, Practical Patch Branded Heat Shrink will be over the Neutrik Connectors. Over the cable as pictured on the bush is the old ways from the dark times. Todays methods are far supperior to the old!
Cable Description:
- Van Damme XKE Pro Grade Instrument Cable, Lo-cap 90pf/M and Flexible - no snake oil here, Oxygen-Free tells you that the cable has been produced with the best copper for purpose. It means that this cable finished with Neutrik Ends sealing will not suffer due to the elements, therefore, no soldered connection will sever or for want of a better term "rust away" or degrade over time
- All Black and Gold Sleeve and Tip Neutrik NP2X-B or NP2RX-B, These are the most expensive connectors of Neutriks PX range. Gold does improve conductivity however the results are possibly negligible to the human ear. What genuine gold plating does offer is again, longevity, as moisture will not degrade the contacts
- Thick Pet Style UV Sleeve, not quite glow in the dark but certainly going to be seen under black light or stage
- Branded Black Practical Patch Heat Shrink Covers Neutrik Assemblies
- All instrument cables come with a genuine Velcro cable tie
Please Note: Slime Green cables take at least 24 hours to produce before finishing and dispatch.
